What Is Brake Fluid & Why Is It Important? | Albany, NY

Destination Nissan wants to make things as easy as possible for you, so today we thought we’d share a guide to your ride post! What is brake fluid and why is it important? Well, brake fluid, also called hydraulic fluid, is a liquid chemical solution that pumps through your hydraulic braking system when you press down on the break. The fluid amplifies the force you use to press down and uses it to apply pressure onto your car’s brakes, allowing you to come to a complete stop with minimal exertion on your part. Braking fluid has to have a high boiling point because friction from the brake pads can create a lot of heat and threaten to evaporate surrounding liquids into gas, decreasing hydraulic pressure and your ability to effectively brake. You also have to be wary of your brake fluid’s viscosity as it needs to remain constant across wide ranges of temperature to properly relay the right amount of pressure to your brakes. Thankfully, Destination Nissan offers a comprehensive brake service where our dedicated service professionals not only check your brake fluid, but diligently go over the entirety of your braking system to be sure there are no issues.  So, stay safe and schedule your next service appointment with a Destination Nissan service team member. 3 Signs You Need to Get your Brake Fluid Checked: “Soft”/“squishy” feeling brake pedal. This means there is less fluid in your lines to compress and create that pressure needed to fully brake Oily puddles forming under your car. This could be brake fluid leaking from any number of place within your hydraulic system The ABS warning light on your dashboard has come on. Those lights aren’t just there for decoration. They turn on to indicate your vehicle is in need or service in one way or the other.

Tips For A Successful Winter In Your Nissan! | Albany, NY

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter right here at Destination Nissan! And we want to help our customers have a successful winter season. Whether you’re staying here in Albany or you’re planning to travel this winter, these tips will help you conquer the cold. Check them out below and warm up behind the wheel of a brand new Nissan this January. Hurry in to see our team and take advantage of great new incentives happening all month long! Emergency Kit: It’s always a good idea to be prepared in the event of an emergency, especially in the winter months. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, warm hat, gloves, and extra socks in your vehicle. It’s a good idea to keep a blanket, phone charger, flashlight, bottle of water, and a small non-perishable snack. Stop Foggy Windows: Foggy windows are no stranger in the winter season. And they can lead to potentially dangerous situations. Roll down your windows to quickly defog those windows or keep a clean chalkboard eraser in your vehicle to wipe away the fog. Keep Yourself From Getting Stuck: If your vehicle is a little on the lighter side, we encourage you to place a few bags of kitty litter in the back of your vehicle or trunk. This will aid in traction in the rear of your vehicle. And also keep a small shovel in the event you get stuck. Keep The Underside Of Your Vehicle Clean: It’s important to keep your vehicle clean all year long, but it’s especially important to keep the underside of your vehicle clean during the winter. Dirt, salt, and ice can accumulate underneath and cause erosion. Get a car wash on a warmer day and park your vehicle in the garage. Avoid Frozen Wiper Blades: Whether it’s a little snow or ice, no one likes frozen over wiper blades. We recommend leaving your wiper blades propped up when your vehicle is in park or placing a pair of socks over the blades to keep them from freezing. Winter Car Care Tips For Your Nissan! | Albany, NY

It’s the season of dropping temperatures and snowy conditions. This means you need to treat your vehicle to some TLC to ensure you’re getting the most out of your vehicle. This week we have some important tips that will help you have a successful winter season. And if your vehicle is ready to be serviced, hurry on in to see our team. Or if you’re ready to upgrade into a brand new Nissan, hurry in because our Year-End Sales Event is happening now and you can upgrade into a brand new Nissan for less right here at Destination Nissan! Swap out regular tires for winter tires. Snow or not, when temperatures fall below 45 degrees, winter tires are recommended. They're made to give you better traction while turning or stopping on cold pavement. Check your tire pressure weekly. Driving on underinflated tires can cause them to wear down prematurely and lose traction on icy or slippery surfaces. Your tires lose a pound of pressure with every 10-degree drop in temperature. Always keep your fuel tank half full. During winter weather, it's important to keep at least half a tank of fuel in the vehicle in the event of an emergency or if you get stuck in the snow and wait for assistance. Pack an emergency to-go kit. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, blanket, boots, gloves, and a hat inside your vehicle when the temperatures drop. We also recommend keeping a flashlight, first aid kit, and emergency contact information or AAA handy. Protect your windshield wipers. If you park outdoors, leave the wipers in the raised position to prevent them from freezing to the windshield. Never use your wiper blades to remove ice, snow, or frost from the windshield; use an ice scraper instead. Find Your New Nissan Here: https://www.destinationnissan.com/searchnew.aspx

Take On The Tailgate With The Right Nissan! | Albany, NY

Kick-off just isn’t the same without the tailgate pre-party! That’s right, it’s football season which means it’s time to pull out your jersey and apparel to support your beloved team. As you pack up the car to head to the game you can only imagine the fun that’s ahead of you, but it doesn’t start when you get inside the stadium, it starts in the parking lot! Oh yeah, we’re going tailgating this weekend! The food, the attire, and the games all matter, but when it comes to dominating the tailgate your vehicle could make or break it. So you have to ask yourself, is your ride the right one for the party? Lucky for you, this week’s blog is dedicated to helping you transform your vehicle into the tailgate champion. If you feel that your vehicle can’t take on the job then it might be time to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. If this is the case for you, be sure to browse our available inventory to find the right Nissan for the job! Let’s get this party started, check out all you need to know on how to dominate the tailgate below! Basics: Every tailgate has basics, these include chairs, tables, food (it’s a must), drinks, coolers, plates, utensils, and a grill (be the grill master of the tailgate party)! Take It Up A Notch: Everybody can bring a grill and some food, but that doesn’t make them tailgate masters...take it to the next level with portable phone chargers, wireless speakers, and a portable satellite TV so that you and your guests can watch the pre-game action at the same time. You’ll definitely get some brownie points for that! All Decked Out: What is a tailgate without some team pride?? Not a good one that's for sure! Get all decked out, apparel, magnet decor for your vehicle, balloons, foam fingers, and don’t forget to serve the opposing team fans a burger on a paper plate that has your team's decor...oh yeah I went there! Location: You can have everything for the perfect tailgate party, but it won’t be enough without the right spot! Weather is never perfect, especially in the months ahead, so get there early and ensure you get the perfect spot that shelters your vehicle from the sun, wind, and rain away is generally a wise choice.
