Tire Pressure Tips & Tricks For Fall | Albany, NY

It’s officially fall, y’all! That means temperatures are falling, and if you’re an early riser you know that frost season has already crept in. So as a responsible car owner, you have a very important task to tackle this week. This week we want you to check your tire PSI. This often gets overlooked but is very important to your safety and vehicle performance. So why are we just talking about it? Great question! Well, when the temperature outside drops so does your tire’s PSI! In fact, outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees. So, the time to get your PSI in check is now! Follow the tips and tricks below or schedule your service appointment today with the pros here at Destination Nissan! Why it’s important to check your tire pressure… Your safety Longer lasting tires Improved handling and control Reduced risk of accidents and blowouts Better fuel economy Reduced carbon footprint Tips for Checking and Filling Your Tires When the temperature drops, we suggest checking your tire pressure. Outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees. What’s the right PSI level? The recommended PSI for your vehicle’s tires is determined by the vehicle’s manufacturer and the recommended tire size. You can find this information in your owner’s manual or on the placard inside of the door edge, glove box door, or fuel door. In most newer vehicles, your vehicle will alert you when your vehicle’s tires fall below the recommended PSI Do NOT use the max PSI that is printed on the tire sidewall. The pressure amount on the tire is normally the maximum allowed pressure. Over-inflation can lead to poor handling and comfort, overheating, and blowouts. How to properly inflate your tires. If you do not have air at home, most gas stations have an air pump for you to use. Remove dust caps from the tires’ valve stems. Insert your tire gauge into the tire valve and leave it in for a few seconds When you remove it, the gauge will provide a PSI reading If the tire gauge’s recorded reading is higher than the manufacturer-recommended rating, press the gauge tip on the valve stem until you hear air leak out. Check the tire pressure again. If the reading is lower than recommended, you will need to fill the tire with air. When filling the tire, firmly press the air-hose into the valve, as you did with the tire gauge When you think you’ve added or let out enough air, check the pressure a few times with the gauge. Return the valve dust caps. Schedule Your Nissan Fall Service NOW!

Destination Nissan Lends A Hand To Albany Police Department! | Albany, NY

Here at Destination Nissan, we always are here to lend a helping hand to those who are in need. No matter the situation, we try to make the best of it and assist wherever possible. In recent days, we have teamed up with Specialized Vehicle Upfitting (SVU) to help the Albany Police Department in the best way we knew how: giving their patrol vehicles a deep cleaning. What Is Specialized Vehicle Uplifting? Specialized Vehicle Upfitting (SVU) was created in 2014 and has been building the safest, most reliable police and emergency vehicles in the area ever since. We are using High Output Ozone machines to ozone shock the interior of emergency vehicles.  Ozone is a proven and extremely effective method of sanitizing the interior of a vehicle. Ozone gets into cracks and crevices that normal sprays and wipes cannot reach. Finally, we use an electronic-safe spray to disinfect the electronics and two-way radio microphones. With our partnership with SVU, we were able to provide officers with a clean vehicle. Our team has assisted in cleaning all interior panels, seats, dashboards and windows. It was a pleasure to help our officers during this time as they work around the clock to provide a safe community to work and live in. We express our greatest gratitude to them and the rest of the first responders in the Albany area. It was a privilege to help and we wish all of the first responders health, safety, and we thank them for their daily sacrifices! Shop With Destination Nissan Today!

Spring Driving Tips | Albany, NY

As we begin to switch gears from winter to spring it’s important to remind yourself that driving in spring is a lot different than driving in winter. With the warmer weather coming in there are a lot more distractions to keep an eye out for. For example, more pedestrians, cyclists, runners, and especially construction workers! Plus, the winter has left its mark on our roads with huge potholes that can cause lots of damage to your vehicle. So while you’re rocking out to your favorite song with the windows down, it’s important to keep an eye out for the road ahead! Check out our spring driving tips below and if you’re in need of a new ride for all of your spring adventures, be sure to browse our available inventory now and schedule a test drive! Be On The Lookout For Potholes: Winter weather takes a big toll on our roadways, which leads to some pretty nasty potholes. If your speeding down the road and don’t slow down in time and hit a pothole, then chances are that your vehicle is gonna have some damage, serious damage. Damage can include a punctured tire, bent rim, suspension damage, poor alignment, and exhaust system damage. Slow Down For Spring Showers: Did you know that roads are most slippery when it first starts to rain? This is caused by rainwater mixing with contaminants on the road, such as oil and grease. Make sure to increase your following distance to allow for proper braking. Watch For Animals On The Move: Animal activity is up when the weather starts getting nicer. That means keep an eye out and drive slow especially for animals like deer that are known to be out at dusk and dawn. Watch For Pedestrians: Similar to animals, people tend to be out and about more when the weather starts getting warmer. Whether that means there are more walkers, cyclists or kids play hopscotch. Be sure to slow down especially in residential neighborhoods and busy streets. Share The Road With Motorcycles: Spring is when the motorcycle riders come out, and because of their speed and size, they may come in and out of your blind spots quickly. Be sure to listen to the sound of their bike and take a few extra seconds before switching lanes. If you are following a motorcycle, remember to leave a good amount of space in between. Maintain Proper Tire Pressure: During the winter months, your tires lose air due to the cold temperatures, this cause your tire to be under-deflated. Vice-versa, warm weather will cause them to be over-inflated. Each situation can lead to increased wear and poor handling. Inspect Your Tires: Spring will bring the showers and when that happens making sure your tire tread is in shape is important to the quality of your driving. Just like snow, rain makes the road slippery and having good tires will make or break your driving experience. Remember to use easy tricks the penny test to check your tire tread and regularly check your tire pressure if your vehicle doesn’t display it for you. Pay Attention In Construction Zones: When the snow washes away and the spring days are here to stay, construction will start up again. One thing to keep in mind is that construction zones ask you to slow down for a reason, do it. Remember to... Be attentive. Construction workers and equipment may suddenly enter the roadway. Traffic patterns can change daily to accommodate the work being done. Understand and follow the signs. Make safe lane changes. Solid lines in construction zones mean that you should stay in your lane. Slow down. Fines may be doubled in construction zones. In addition, slowing down can save a life.
