If you’re looking for some fantastic museums and galleries to explore in Albany, look no further. These galleries and museums are packed full of paintings, sculptures, and modern pieces that are sure to intrigue any art lover.

Albany Institute of History and Art

Art enthusiasts will love the collection at the Albany Institute of History and Art. The institute is located on Washington Avenue in downtown Albany and costs $10 to visit. If you are a member of the institute, admission is free.

Inside you can explore drawings of Albany when it was first being built. There are paintings from both American and European artists. There is an African art section, a women painter’s section, a collection of Chinese porcelain, and beautiful Native American totem poles. You could easily spend the whole day exploring the collection here.

University Art Museum

The University at Albany has an on-campus museum which is one of the best art museums in the entire city. The collection of work ranges from student exhibits to abstract pieces done by international artists. The exhibits are constantly changing, so you can visit the museum once a month and find completely different art to enjoy.

Another nice thing about visiting the University Art Museum is that entry is completely free. There is free parking available on Saturdays, and during the week you’ll pay $5 for the whole day if you enter before 4 p.m.
