Kick-off just isn’t the same without the tailgate pre-party! That’s right, it’s football season which means it’s time to pull out your jersey and apparel to support your beloved team. As you pack up the car to head to the game you can only imagine the fun that’s ahead of you, but it doesn’t start when you get inside the stadium, it starts in the parking lot! Oh yeah, we’re going tailgating this weekend!
The food, the attire, and the games all matter, but when it comes to dominating the tailgate your vehicle could make or break it. So you have to ask yourself, is your ride the right one for the party? Lucky for you, this week’s blog is dedicated to helping you transform your vehicle into the tailgate champion. If you feel that your vehicle can’t take on the job then it might be time to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. If this is the case for you, be sure to browse our available inventory to find the right Nissan for the job! Let’s get this party started, check out all you need to know on how to dominate the tailgate below!
Basics:
- Every tailgate has basics, these include chairs, tables, food (it’s a must), drinks, coolers, plates, utensils, and a grill (be the grill master of the tailgate party)!
Take It Up A Notch:
- Everybody can bring a grill and some food, but that doesn’t make them tailgate masters…take it to the next level with portable phone chargers, wireless speakers, and a portable satellite TV so that you and your guests can watch the pre-game action at the same time. You’ll definitely get some brownie points for that!
All Decked Out:
- What is a tailgate without some team pride?? Not a good one that’s for sure! Get all decked out, apparel, magnet decor for your vehicle, balloons, foam fingers, and don’t forget to serve the opposing team fans a burger on a paper plate that has your team’s decor…oh yeah I went there!
Location:
- You can have everything for the perfect tailgate party, but it won’t be enough without the right spot! Weather is never perfect, especially in the months ahead, so get there early and ensure you get the perfect spot that shelters your vehicle from the sun, wind, and rain away is generally a wise choice.

One thing that you don’t want to mess around with when it comes to fall/winter weather is your vehicle’s tires and tread depth. So what are you supposed to do? Well, check it, of course, silly goose. But if you’re unsure how to do that, we have you covered and you’ve come to the right blog. Take a look at that guide below and schedule a service appointment with our team if you need a little assistance. We also encourage you to head over to our service specials page for some details on our current monthly service offers. We’re sure you’ll find something you’ll like!
As a vehicle owner, you should always be monitoring your tread depth and the overall condition of your tires. Why? Well, your tires play a vital role in making sure that you, your family, and your passengers make it to your destination safely. Having poor tire tread can really put you at risk. So, monitor close and once it reaches 4/32 inch deep. In fact, 4/32” or deeper means that your tires still have good tread. Anything around 3/32” means that you should replace tires soon, and anything at 2/32” means that you need to replace the tires as soon as possible!
But, you’ll need to know how to check your tires and really, all you need is some loose change! Seriously, just a few coins and you’ll know whether it’s time to swap or not. We know that there are a few ways out there to check your tire tread depth, some are much easier than others. And below, you’ll find those that are easier than others!
The penny test: Insert a penny into your tire’s tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down into the tread facing toward you. If you can see all of the head, your tread depth is less than 2/32” and it is time to replace your tires.
The quarter test: do the same test with a quarter and if the tread reaches Washington’s head, you have at least 4/32” of tread remaining. AKA your tires are still in good shape!
No change? No problem! Take a look at your tread wear indicator bar that is molded into the tread of your tires. Bars are located at the bottom of tread grooves in multiple locations; when these bars are visibly flush with the adjacent ribs, your tire has no more than 2/32” of tread left. This is a visible indication that you need to swap out these tires!

Hello, fall! Summer is officially gone and fall is here. That means the temperatures are dropping low and so is your tire’s PSI. If you didn’t know, outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees. This can lead to issues that can be both dangerous and costly. That’s why this week’s blog is dedicated to helping our customers get their tire PSI under control and ready for the colder temperature that will be coming our way very soon. Below, you will find the information you need to tackle this fall maintenance, but as always, if you need assistance please schedule a service appointment with us today!
Why it’s important to check your tire pressure…
- Your safety
- Longer lasting tires
- Improved handling and control
- Reduced risk of accidents and blowouts
- Better fuel economy
- Reduced carbon footprint
Tips for Checking and Filling Your Tires
- When the temperature drops, we suggest checking your tire pressure.
- Outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees.
What’s the right PSI level?
- The recommended PSI for your vehicle’s tires is determined by the vehicle’s manufacturer and the recommended tire size.
- You can find this information in your owner’s manual or on the placard inside of the door edge, glove box door, or fuel door.
- In most newer vehicles, your vehicle will alert you when your vehicle’s tires fall below the recommended PSI
- Do NOT use the max PSI that is printed on the tire sidewall. The pressure amount on the tire is normally the maximum allowed pressure.
- Over-inflation can lead to poor handling and comfort, overheating, and blowouts.
How to properly inflate your tires.
- If you do not have air at home, most gas stations have an air pump for you to use.
- Remove dust caps from the tires’ valve stems.
- Insert your tire gauge into the tire valve and leave it in for a few seconds
- When you remove it, the gauge will provide a PSI reading
- If the tire gauge’s recorded reading is higher than the manufacturer-recommended rating, press the gauge tip on the valve stem until you hear air leak out. Check the tire pressure again.
- If the reading is lower than recommended, you will need to fill the tire with air.
- When filling the tire, firmly press the air-hose into the valve, as you did with the tire gauge
- When you think you’ve added or let out enough air, check the pressure a few times with the gauge.
- Return the valve dust caps.

Battery Power:
- Making sure your battery is fresh is important. The experts say you should change your battery every 3 years, though you could get away with 5 depending on how much you drive…If you’re thinking to yourself “I can’t remember the last time I changed my battery,” it might be time to do so.
- Make sure the cables are not loose. With the engine off, see if the cables can slip free from the nodes. Don’t yank, but be firm.
- Check for corrosion, a white powder that forms around the nodes or clamps of your battery. You can clean this off using baking soda, water, and a toothbrush.
Fill your Fluids:
- It might cost you a little bit more but invest in a “winter blend” type of windshield wiper fluid. These tend to have more alcohol in them and less water so the chance of freezing is less.
- If your windshield washer fluid tank hasn’t been flushed in a few years then it could use it! Be sure not to mix colors; most antifreeze is green, blue, or yellow, but be sure not to mix colors.
- Checking your vehicle’s oil is important. If you have not had an oil change in a long time, it might be time for one.
Additional Preventative Measures:
- Buy an emergency kit with cables, a first aid kit, flares, a battery-powered air compressor, and other things that can prevent a minor inconvenience from becoming a major problem.
- Check the clarity of all your lights.
- Keeping the gas tank at half-filled can help prevent a fuel line freeze; so can that fuel-line antifreeze mentioned earlier.
- Tire pressure is important in the snow, be sure that your vehicle’s tires are to the correct PSI.

Summer is almost gone and the change of seasons is upon us! That means it’s important to stop in to see our team for a little fall service completed before summer is gone for good. Below is a list of four services to have completed this August or early September! When you’re done with our list, be sure to schedule your service appointment online today and let our team assist you with all of your vehicle needs!
Car Battery
- With the changes of seasons coming quickly, it’s a great time to stop in to see our team for diagnostic testing to ensure that your battery is healthy and ready to take on the winter temperatures. Plus, ask to have your cables and terminals checked for corrosion and properly tightened. Winter is known for killing batteries, stop in, and let’s have your battery properly maintenanced before the change of seasons!
Headlights
- As our cars age, our headlights tend to become cloudy or even hazy, especially on vehicles that are continuously parked outside in the elements. While the days get shorter, we will be using our headlights much more these days which means it’s very important to ensure that your headlights are the brightest they could possibly be. Whether it’s headlight conditioning, replacement of the bulbs, or replacing your headlights altogether, our team can assist you with all of your needs.
Tires
- Responsible driving all starts at the tires. Monthly tread inspections can help you stay on top of when it’s time to replace your tires. If you have noticed that your tires are less than ⅛-inch of tread, then it’s time to upgrade. While all-season tires might be a cheaper option upfront, choosing a set for both summer and winter, offers a more well-rounded performance. Stop in to see our team and let us help you choose the right tires for your vehicle!
Wipers
- Did you know that it’s a great option to replace your wipers every six months? Typically, your wipers should be replaced twice a year to ensure top performance. Before the fall season, it’s a great option to upgrade those wipers and choose a pair that are specifically designed for winter weather as we are quickly heading that way. Also, if you’re looking to extend the lifespan of your wipers, we encourage you to clean them with a paper towel and glass cleaner each time you stop to get gas.

Calling all college students! August is right around the corner and that means it’s almost time to pack up your things and head back to school. Before that happens, it’s important to make sure that you get your vehicle into tip-top shape before you hit the road. The last thing you want is to find yourself broken down on the way to school, or having to service your vehicle while away at school. To avoid any issues, check out our back-to-school car care tips below!
Top off all the fluids
- Regular oil changes are a must, but that isn’t the only fluid you should be keeping an eye on in your vehicle.
- Keep an eye out for transmission, brakes, coolants, and more. Clean fluids help your engine run smoothly, while dirty fluids can cause damage.
Take a peek at your lights.
- Headlight or taillight out? Lights out on your vehicle are very dangerous. A burned-out headlight can impair your ability to see the road clearly, increasing the risk of a flat tire or accident. While a burnt-out taillight can make it hard to see you.
- Simply turn your lights on while the car is in park, and walk around the entire vehicle to make sure your headlights, rear lights, blinkers, and hazards are functioning properly.
- Not only will this keep you safe, but it will keep you from getting a pulled over/ a ticket.
- If you need replacement, just schedule a service appointment today.
Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated
- Improper tire pressure can cause you to get fewer miles per gallon? It can also increase wear and tear, resulting in a need to replace the tires sooner than normal, and becoming very costly.
- To keep your tires in tip-top shape, keep a tire gauge in your car and check the pressure monthly.
- Check for wear and tear by utilizing the “penny test” by inserting an upside-down penny in the tread groove. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to get new tires.
Don’t forget your wipers
- You don’t want to be driving down the highway, and go to use your wipers and have no washer fluid! Your windshield wiper fluid needs to be topped off to ensure you have good visibility in poor weather.
- Wiper blades need regular replacement too, usually every six to twelve months.
CH-CH-CHARGE IT UP
- Don’t find yourself getting out of a class only to find your battery has died.
- If your car is sluggish to start or if the dashboard lights or radio are giving you trouble, it may be a sign you need a new battery.
- Batteries only last three to five years, so if you’ve had yours a long time, it’s probably time for a new one.
- If you find you need a replacement, your mechanic can test your battery during routine maintenance and oil changes.
Check your seatbelts—and wear them.
- Buckle up and stay safe this school year. Simply wearing a properly fitted seat belt saves thousands of lives each year.
- It’s one of the most effective ways to avoid serious injury in an accident. Airbags alone are not enough to protect you.
- Make sure your seatbelt is secured tightly across the pelvis and rib cage.
Take a break and get your brakes checked
- It’s no secret that your brakes are a crucial part of your drive.
- Worn brakes can make it hard to stop quickly and can cause your car to travel farther before coming to a halt — making it more likely you’ll find yourself in an accident.
- To avoid that, a professional mechanic should check your vehicle’s brakes regularly, preferably as part of a routine maintenance check performed during regular oil changes.
Pack an emergency kit just in case
- It’s never a bad idea to be prepared! Items you’ll want to keep in your car in case of trouble include a flashlight, tire repair kit, first aid items, a basic tool kit (lug wrench, screwdriver, hammer), jumper cables, hazard triangle, a blanket, and even a small amount of cash.
In need of a new ride before you go back to school? Browse our available inventory now and schedule a test drive when it is most convenient for you or stop into Destination Nissan today!
