Can you believe April is almost over? And if you haven’t serviced your ride there is no better time than now to do so! Why might you ask? Well, April is National Car Care Month, and participating in it might not be a bad idea, especially after the harsh winter your vehicle experienced! It’s no surprise that we’re going to tell you again how important it is to service and maintain your vehicle, but it is so true! If you don’t service your vehicle because you don’t want to spend money, you will more than likely spend money on repairs that could have been prevented by servicing your vehicle in the first place.

A couple of weeks ago we told you about our April service specials, which means it’s time to SAVE while you service! If you missed out on last week’s blog, no biggie, just head over to our site and check out our blog section, or just head over to our service specials page and you can view and print out whichever service works best for you. So, don’t let your Nissan take a backseat this spring, and check out our service checklist below! Be sure to check off all the boxes to make sure your ride is ready to keep the good times rolling! If there is any maintenance below that you don’t feel you can complete yourself, be sure to print out one of our service coupons and head on in today!

Car Care Tips For Spring:

  • Check those fluid levels, all of them! From engine oil, power steering, brake, and transmission fluids…oh and don’t forget the windshield wiper fluid and antifreeze/coolant!
  • Take a peek at your hoses and belts to make sure they haven’t been cracked due to cold weather and wear and tear.
  • Check your battery to make sure the connection is clean, tight, and corrosion-free.
  • Make sure to get your ride an oil change and have the brake linings, rotors, and drums inspected.
  • Often overlooked, but important; be sure to check your exhaust system for leaks and damaged or broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise.
  • Tune it up with a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy
  • Check the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for safety reasons and interior comfort in the spring/summer months
  •  Inspect the steering and suspension system
  • Check your tire pressure and tread depth to see if it’s time for a new set. Also keep an eye out for uneven tread wear, which indicates that your vehicle needs a wheel alignment.
  • Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen

Spring is in full bloom and Destination Nissan wants to help remind you that it’s time to top off your fluid levels! Spring is the perfect time to get your ride back into tip-top shape after the hit it took from the winter months! Plus, if your fluid levels fall below the recommended line, you could find yourself breaking down, overheating, or get stuck in some costly repairs.

So to avoid any of the above from happening, this week’s blog is dedicated to your vehicle’s fluid levels and what they all do for your ride! The best part is you can use it as a checklist when making sure that you checked off all of your vehicle’s levels from majors like engine and transmission to simpler features like windshield wiper fluid! Check ‘em all and fill ‘em all, that’s our motto this week!

Get An Organizer

There are many products that can help keep your trunk organized. The key is knowing what will work best for your lifestyle and having a designated spot for items. Shower caddies work wonders when it comes to storing a few small things or fluids for your vehicle. Bigger organizers can be utilized to store bigger items and/ or keep them from rolling around in your trunk.

Keep It Out Of Your Trunk

Don’t get in the habit of tossing things back there, keep unnecessary items out of your trunk in the first place. Items like your purse, reusable shopping bags, or other small items can be kept up front for easy accessibility. Keeping these items out of your trunk will keep them from spilling over or piling up.

Contain The Mess

Once your trunk is organized, try to maintain it. An organized trunk can guarantee that you’ll avoid spills, damage, and potential injury. Keep tie-down straps, pets, and cargo barriers in your trunk for those times when you need to secure something a little tighter or your pet is along for the road trip too.

Must-Haves For Your Car

While you are organizing, it is important to keep your vehicle equipped with a few certain things.

  • Pen and pad of paper
  • Cell phone charger
  • Vehicle’s owner manual, proof of insurance, and a copy of your registration.
  • First aid kit
  • Jacket, hat, gloves, and a blanket
  • Spare tire and jack, and jumper cables

Many of us are happy to say goodbye to winter because that means that the warm weather is coming, aka no more snow! But just because we might not see any more snow doesn’t mean that driving in spring is any safer than driving in winter. I know many of you might be scratching your head questioning how that might be. Well, during the spring a lot more people are out and about, including walkers, children, motorists, and bikers. Making sure you stay attentive at all times is extremely important during the spring/summer months. Weather-wise, conditions can become slippery during the spring months due to all of the rain that we get. With many many things to remember and keep an eye out for, we thought it would be a good idea to list them out and remind you what you should be checking for. So get yourself prepared to start driving in spring conditions again with our helpful tips below!

Be On The Lookout For Potholes: Winter weather takes a big toll on our roadways, which leads to some pretty nasty potholes. If you’re speeding down the road and don’t slow down in time and hit a pothole, then chances are that your vehicle is gonna have some serious damage. Damage can include a punctured tire, bent rim, suspension damage, poor alignment, and exhaust system damage.

Slow Down For Spring Showers: Did you know that roads are most slippery when it first starts to rain? This is caused by rainwater mixing with contaminants on the road, such as oil and grease. Make sure to increase your following distance to allow for proper braking.

Watch For Animals On The Move: Animal activity is up when the weather starts getting nicer. That means keep an eye out and drive slow especially for animals like deer that are known to be out at dusk and dawn.

Watch For Pedestrians: Similar to animals, people tend to be out and about more when the weather starts getting warmer. Whether that means there are more walkers, cyclists or kids play hopscotch. Be sure to slow down especially in residential neighborhoods and busy streets.

Share The Road With Motorcycles: Spring is when the motorcycle riders come out, and because of their speed and size, they may come in and out of your blind spots quickly. Be sure to listen to the sound of their bike and take a few extra seconds before switching lanes. If you are following a motorcycle, remember to leave a good amount of space in between.

Maintain Proper Tire Pressure: During the winter months, your tires lose air due to the cold temperatures, this causes your tire to be under-deflated. Vice-versa, warm weather will cause them to be over-inflated. Each situation can lead to increased wear and poor handling.

Inspect Your Tires: Spring will bring the showers and when that happens making sure your tire tread is in shape is important to the quality of your driving. Just like snow, rain makes the road slippery, and having good tires will make or break your driving experience. Remember to use easy tricks like the penny test to check your tire tread and regularly check your tire pressure if your vehicle doesn’t display it for you.

Pay Attention In Construction Zones: When the snow washes away and the spring days are here to stay, construction will start up again. One thing to keep in mind is that construction zones ask you to slow down for a reason, do it. Remember to…

  • Be attentive. Construction workers and equipment may suddenly enter the roadway. Traffic patterns can change daily to accommodate the work being done.
  • Understand and follow the signs.
  • Make safe lane changes. Solid lines in construction zones mean that you should stay in your lane.
  • Slow down. Fines may be doubled in construction zones. In addition, slowing down can save a life.
