Nissan IDS Concept Video
The video above gives us a glimpse at what the future of driving hopefully looks like. The vehicle seen is the Nissan IDS concept and it is unique in that it (in theory) offers both manual and piloted driving modes. It also learns your driving habits and preferences so that when it is in piloted mode the IDS will drive like you do. When the IDS is in manual mode, the driver is in control. It performs like a sports car and still offers assistance when needed, especially in safety situations. As you can see from the video, the IDS also communicates with the driver, other drivers, bikers, and pedestrians. The IDS isn’t just a mode of transportation, it’s also an entertainment center and a place for you to relax.
To see the latest Nissan technologies, come to Destination Nissan today and we’ll show you everything that it possible with a Nissan.
Fall is Here! Prepare Your Vehicle for Colder Temps
Although we have had nice weather extend into September, colder weather is on the horizon. As the calendar wanes down, so do the temperatures. We prepare ourselves with sweaters, our house with heat and insulation and we must not forget our vehicle. Destination Nissan has some great tips for preparing your vehicle for cold temperatures.
Check the Lights
Do a thorough inspection of your vehicle’s lights-taillights, emergency flashers, parking lights, headlights, brake lights and turn signals-to make sure they are all working. It’s going to be getting darker earlier so you want to be able to see in front of you as well as be visible to vehicles behind you.
Replace Wiper Blades
We see more rain in the fall, which leads to ice and snow in the winter. Replace your wiper blades so they will be new and up for the challenges ahead. Consider replacing wiper fluid with a type that contains antifreeze.
Check the Tires
Wetter weather means more slippery roads. Be sure your tires have a safe amount of tread on them so that you can stop quick enough in adverse weather conditions. Make sure they are inflated to the proper psi and check them frequently in the upcoming months since the cold air can wreak havoc on their air levels. Don’t forget to check the spare tire’s tread and psi.
Battery Maintenance
Cold weather is hard on your vehicle’s battery, so you should be sure it is charged and working optimally. Batteries over three years old especially need to be checked. Check the connections for corrosion and clean them if necessary.
Engine Oil and Thickness
The viscosity is a measure of how thin or thick oil is. Cold temperatures increase the engine oil’s viscosity, which does not circulate as well as thinner oil. If the oil is too thick, the engine is not properly lubricated, which can cause lots of expensive damage. Consult the owner’s manual to see if your vehicle’s oil has any cold weather requirements.
Follow these tips and your car or truck will be all ready for the cold temperatures!
Nissan GT Academy Brings Us “Back to Basics”
The Nissan GT Academy originally began back in 2008 when the Nissan NISMO racing team decided to give experienced gamers a chance to see if they could put their stellar skills playing racing games to use in actual race cars. The challenge ended up being a success and the winner of that first season ended up going on to become an extremely successful driver for the Nissan brand.
In the seven years since that inaugural season, the brand has gone on to name a total of 21 winners in their GT Academy some of which have gone on to have the same type of success as the first winner, while others have found that the real world competition to be more difficult than expected.
The Nissan brand has decided to go “Back to Basics” with a look back at the story of all of the different winners from over the years. In doing so, they will be releasing a 20-part series on the NISMO TV YouTube channel. The first episode will offer a look back at the history of the GT Academy and discuss the series of events that led to its creation. Each of the following 19 episodes with then each focus on one of the winners highlighting the journey of their win and showing where they are now.
You can see the first episode of “Back to Basics” in the video below.

Visit Albany’s Most Delicious Italian Restaurants
The city of Albany has a history deeply rooted in Italian culture. Before the Nelson Rockefeller Empire State Plaza was established and eminent domain took over, Albany’s South end was full of Italian communities that were forced to spread out and leave the area. Part of what was given to the community was their great passion for food, as you can see with so many amazing places to get a great Italian dish in the area. Below Destination Nissan discusses two fabulous Italian restaurants in the Albany area.
Caffé Italia
662 Central Avenue
For more than 30 years, the Romeo family has been delivering the tastes of old world classic Italian dishes to the community, which have been passed down for generations. Caffé Italia cooks every entrée to order and only uses the freshest, highest quality ingredients. A few of their most popular dishes include: Zuppa di Pesce, Swordfish Marechiaro, Fussili Seminerio, Veal Luciana and Sea Bass Antonio. Our personal favorite is the lobster ravioli in a tarragon cream sauce. The inside is small and cozy, so be sure to call ahead!
D’Raymond’s
269 Osborne Road
Tucked away at the end of a small plaza in the suburbs of Albany County you will find D’Raymond’s. All you have to do is say the name to locals and their eyes light up and their mouths start to water. The interior boasts of classic Italian charm, with mural windows, brick walls, dim lighting and smooth wood beams. D’Raymond’s has received the “Capital Region Living Award” 2011-2014 and “Best of the capital Region Award” 2009-2014. They offer a wide range of Italian dishes from the classic Veal Marsala to the more diverse Scaloppe Alle Tre Mostarde (veal in a three mustard sauce). Enjoy D’Raymond’s seafood, chicken and beef dishes and don’t forget to top it off with a dessert and cordial.
If you’re craving Italian food, you can’t go wrong with either of these beloved Albany restaurants!
Nissan Wants To Put “Ladies First”
All over the world, women are becoming a stronger presence in the work place, especially in manager-level positions. The percentage of women employees keeps increasing year over year thanks in part to programs like the ones that Renault-Nissan Alliance is putting forth.
These new programs aim to recruit, retain and promote women in the workforce in an effort to achieve Nissan’s goal to have women represent 14 percent of all management positions globally by 2017.
One such program already in effect is Japan’s official mentoring program for women manager candidates. This program is available for female general managers and offers reinforcement on issues of strategy, leadership, and career advancement. Another current program is a workshop geared towards young women engineers and offers women advice on how to build a career before having children. And finally, Nissan continues to expand the “Ladies First” retail program in Japan. Consisting mainly of dealerships that are managed and staffed mostly by women, the Ladies First dealerships feature elements that hope to make the shopping experience more welcoming to women and first-time buyers. These dealerships offer stylish interiors, a nursing room, and a spacious area where children can play.
For a look at a “Ladies First” dealership check out the video below.
