2017 is in full swing! You’re eating right, you’re hitting the gym, you’re feeling good. But if you’re looking for a more fulfilling resolution that will help not only yourself but others, consider one of our seven car-safe resolutions below!
- Change a Tire: This is an important life skill that will be useful when you’re in a pinch. Practice changing a tire at home so you’re prepared in the event of a flat tire or blowout.
- Buckle Up: The facts are simple. Seat belts help prevent death and injury in car accidents by a whopping 50 percent. Yet people are still neglecting to use them. This year, enforce a strict seatbelt policy in your vehicle and make sure everyone — no matter how big or small, no matter where they’re sitting, no matter how far you’re traveling — is wearing their seatbelt.
- Be Prepared: Preparing for a fatal accident may seem morbid or extreme, but life is unpredictable. If you ever find yourself in an accident where you are unable to exit your vehicle, you’ll be thankful you made a resolution to invest in auto escape tools like a seatbelt cutter and glass-shattering hammer!
- End Drinking and Driving: Drinking and driving statistics have improved dramatically over the past 30 years, but there’s still work to do. Every single day, 36 people are killed and another 700 are injured from alcohol-related incidents. Just because you’re not driving while intoxicated doesn’t mean you’ve done everything you can. Make sure others are getting home soberly and safely, and offer to help if you see someone at risk.
- Consider Safety Rating: Safety isn’t exactly “sexy,” and that’s why it often gets left behind when people are considering which vehicle to purchase. This year, when you’re buying you New Nissan Vehicle at Destination Nissan, take a look at our safety features and ratings. Don’t worry, you won’t have to sacrifice style, performance, or technology!
- No More Distracted Driving: Distracted driving continues to be huge issue. In 2014, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported that over 431,000 injuries and 3,179 fatalities were because of distracted driving incidents. Make a conscious effort to eliminate distracting things like texting, eating, or applying makeup while driving.
- Fill Up Your Tank: Running on empty is stressful, bad for your engine, and could result in you being stranded somewhere! This year, resolve to watch your gas gauge like a hawk to ensure you never find yourself in this predicament again.
