Pie or cake? For some, it’s one or the other, while a few are fine with both. But if you like pie, you really like pie. You can’t get enough of it. The crisp of the crust, the warmth of the fruit. Plus, you feel a lot less guilty eating a slice of pie than a slice of cake.

But a store-bought pie won’t cut it. You don’t want the kind that takes an hour to heat in the oven, either. You want made-from-scratch pie on your plate, so here are the best spots for a slice of pie in upstate New York.

Grandma Millie’s Bakery

Everyone knows that grandma makes the best pie, and you won’t find a better apple pie than the ones made by Grandma Millie’s Bakery. Located at 160 County Road 3 in Johnstown, Grandma Millie’s Bakery was put on the map by TLC’s Buddy Valastro. Come in and ask for the “Mile High Apple Pie” and you won’t leave disappointed. It may be a drive into rural country, but the trip is well worth it.

Leo’s Bakery and Deli

Located at 101 Despatch Drive in East Rochester, Leo’s Bakery and Deli has been satisfying sweet tooths since the 1940s. They make their pie crusts from scratch every day and make fruit fillings by hand with no preservatives. Leo’s has dozens of options to choose from, including a delectable Cannoli Pie.

Don’t let that craving go unsatisfied. Upstate New York has so many spots for a great pie, and these two are the best places to start.
