If you’re looking for an interesting place to visit in the Schoharie County area in New York, you should consider going to Howe Caverns. Established in 1843, Howe Caverns is the second-most visited attraction in the state. Here are a few fun things you can do there.
Take a Tour
The cave tour is the main highlight of Howe Caverns. An experienced, friendly guide will take you into the winding limestone corridors of the deep cavern. The tour takes 90 minutes and comprises of a walking tour and a boat ride on the cavern’s underground river. You can also opt for a two-hour flashlight or lantern tour, but you need to make reservations for these.
Do Some Mining
Howe Caverns also offers mining opportunities for kids. They’ll get a rare chance to learn how mining is done and possibly find some precious gems or minerals. Get your kids signed up and then purchase bags of mining rough for them. They’ll then take mining rough to the water sluice and sift through it looking for precious items. Your kids get to keep whatever they find.
Enjoy Outdoor Games
There are also a few great outdoor games available at Howe Caverns. You can have a go at the H2OGO Ball, an activity that involves rolling downhill in a 12-foot inflatable ball, or try the 900-foot long, four-tower zip line.
Besides its regular attractions, Howe Caverns also offer special packages to suit different preferences, including overnight tours, birthday parties, or weddings.
