Nissan now officially has three models from their 2016 lineup that have earned the highest-possible Top Safety Pick + rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS had already announce that the 2016 Nissan Maxima and Murano had been awarded this rating, but just last week, the 2016 Nissan Altima was added to the list.

Like the previous two vehicles, the Altima earned this rating by achieving a score of “Good” in all five of the crash tests performed by the IIHS. In order to clinch the “plus “ rating, the available Forward Emergency Braking system on this model earned a “Superior” rating. A few additional, optional safety features that are available on this model include Blind Spot Warning, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Forward Emergency Braking.

“Nissan is very proud to have our best-selling vehicle recognized by IIHS for excellence in vehicle safety,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA). “Like the new Maxima and Murano, Altima sets high standards in a very competitive class for styling, performance and value as well as safety. We at Nissan are gratified to see that another of our core models has been recognized for excellent design and vehicle safety.”
