The city of Albany has a history deeply rooted in Italian culture. Before the Nelson Rockefeller Empire State Plaza was established and eminent domain took over, Albany’s South end was full of Italian communities that were forced to spread out and leave the area. Part of what was given to the community was their great passion for food, as you can see with so many amazing places to get a great Italian dish in the area. Below Destination Nissan discusses two fabulous Italian restaurants in the Albany area.

Caffé Italia

662 Central Avenue

For more than 30 years, the Romeo family has been delivering the tastes of old world classic Italian dishes to the community, which have been passed down for generations. Caffé Italia cooks every entrée to order and only uses the freshest, highest quality ingredients. A few of their most popular dishes include: Zuppa di Pesce, Swordfish Marechiaro, Fussili Seminerio, Veal Luciana and Sea Bass Antonio. Our personal favorite is the lobster ravioli in a tarragon cream sauce. The inside is small and cozy, so be sure to call ahead!

D’Raymond’s

269 Osborne Road

Tucked away at the end of a small plaza in the suburbs of Albany County you will find D’Raymond’s. All you have to do is say the name to locals and their eyes light up and their mouths start to water. The interior boasts of classic Italian charm, with mural windows, brick walls, dim lighting and smooth wood beams. D’Raymond’s has received the “Capital Region Living Award” 2011-2014 and “Best of the capital Region Award” 2009-2014. They offer a wide range of Italian dishes from the classic Veal Marsala to the more diverse Scaloppe Alle Tre Mostarde (veal in a three mustard sauce). Enjoy D’Raymond’s seafood, chicken and beef dishes and don’t forget to top it off with a dessert and cordial.

If you’re craving Italian food, you can’t go wrong with either of these beloved Albany restaurants!
