September and the early fall bring a feeling of immediacy, with the biting cold of winter right around the corner brightening your cheeks. As temperatures drop and colors change, we all have a renewed desire to get out and enjoy the outdoors before we have to don a jacket and trudge through feet of snow. September is a month of fun in upstate New York, so no matter what you or your friends and family enjoy, there’s something for everyone. Here are a few events you can’t miss this September in upstate New York.

Adirondack Balloon Festival

Autumn is mostly associated with colorful leaves, hearty meals, and harvests, but in upstate New York, we add hot air balloons to that list. The Adirondack Balloon Festival, located at 443 Queensbury Ave. in Queensbury, features hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes. And balloons aren’t the only things floating around the from September 21 to September 24. You’ll also find great food, a craft fair, music, and much more. All for no cost to you!

Haunted History Walking Tour

Feeling brave? Want a taste of the supernatural? On September 23 at the Albany Heritage Area Visitors’ Center, you and other courageous souls can venture to Albany’s historic downtown as you learn about the city’s past and the spirits that still walk its streets. This day of fun and education only costs $5 a person.

These two great events are just the tip of all that upstate New York has to offer. So get out and make the most of September!
