Buying a vehicle can be stressful, especially if you’ve never done it before. Whether you’re buying a new or pre-owned vehicle, it is important to do your homework before you head to the dealership. They say knowledge is power and that is very true, the more you know about the vehicle you’re interested in the better off you’ll be. But when you’re looking to purchase a pre-owned vehicle it is a good idea to do a little extra homework to make sure the vehicle you are interested in is in good shape. Dealerships will buy used vehicles and fix them up to be like-new, but it is always a good idea to know what skeletons your vehicle has been through before you commit to it. That’s why this week we are helping you out by giving you some helpful questions you should ask before saying yes. Check them out below and if you’re in the market for a like-new ride, Destination Nissan has an impressive line-up of vehicles to choose from and even offers vehicles as new as 2019!

  1. Is the car I want on the lot?

What’s the point of wasting time and energy negotiating and falling in love with a car to find out the model, or color you want isn’t even on the lot? And even if they can get it from another dealer it won’t be immediately, and who says they will honor the price you’ve agreed upon with another dealer. Talk about a heartbreaker! An easy way to avoid this problem is to do a little research. Go to the dealership with a couple of cars in mind, when you get there ask to see those cars, and have them check the inventory before you fall in love! And if they don’t have your dream car, keep your head up. There are lots of fish in the sea.

  1. What is the actual cost of the car?

Okay, this one is the obvious question but something important to know, there’s a vehicle’s MSRP (manufacturer suggested retail price) and then there is the amount you have to pay to drive that baby off the lot. Depending on the car, the MSRP can be higher or lower. So again, do some research and come informed! You should also expect to pay sales tax, a state licensing fee, and a documentation fee, which dealers charge for filling out the contract. These fees can vary, so here’s where you ask how much your dealer is asking for!

  1. What features don’t work the way they’re supposed to?

It’s not a bad question when shopping for a used car, I mean come on this baby might have already taken a few trips around the block and it might not be as young as it once was. Most of the time if there is an issue it isn’t a deal breaker and is an easy fix, but it’s better to know everything, rather than know nothing.

  1. What is the ownership history?

If you ask this question and the dealer doesn’t know much about the vehicle’s history this could be a red flag! Don’t be afraid to ask for the vehicle history report or service records. Remember this will be your car, you don’t want to find any surprises after you’ve already signed your name!

  1. What is the mileage on my car?

This is an important question even when buying new cars. What if the car was the “test drive car” or maybe it was traded from another dealership. If you’re buying a new car and the odometer reads over 300 miles ask for a discount!

  1. What are my terms of payment?

Deciding whether to lease or buy is only half your battle, you have to then figure out how much you’ll be paying each month. Don’t discuss how much you can pay monthly until you’ve settled on a price of the car. And before you sign a lease, be sure to understand all of the fees and conditions, including what is considered “wear and tear.”

Spring is in full swing and before we know it summer will be here. That’s why there is no better time than NOW to get your ride into tip-top shape after the rough winter weather. We get it, servicing your vehicle can be a pain in the neck with the waiting for your vehicle to be complete and then spending money when you don’t want to, but the truth is your vehicle needs regular service. In order to keep your ride running smoothly, your vehicle needs some well deserved TLC, and if you ignore maintenance you could cause even bigger issues which will cost you even more down the road! To avoid that issue from happening, scheduling service regularly will help you out! But don’t stress, here at Destination Nissan, we offer monthly service specials that help you SAVE BIG on service! So take a peek at our offers below and head over to our service specials page to grab your coupon before it’s gone! Once you’ve found the right coupon for you, be sure to schedule a service appointment so you can skip the line later and worry less about the time!

Okay, so who else is excited that summer is ONLY a couple months? Yeah, us too! But do you know what would make your spring/summer even better? If you slip behind the wheel of a brand new Nissan! I know this might seem like a big investment for a summer road trip, right? But when you buy a Nissan vehicle it is much more than just an investment for one season; with advanced technology and now offering 4WD on the Altima sedan, your Nissan can take you near and far no matter what the weather conditions are outside! So no, it’s not too big of an investment because it will allow you to get where you need to go, regardless of the season!

Want to save a couple of extra bucks on your new Nissan? Then trade-in your old ride when you purchase your new one!  When you trade-in your old vehicle you could use that money toward a beautiful new Nissan! But there are a few things you should know before trading in. I mean knowledge is power, right! So take a few minutes to check out our helpful trade-in tips below and then head over to our website to value your trade from the comfort of your home!

Know Your Vehicle’s Value

  • Knowing your car’s worth can help you get a reasonable amount for your trade. If you are unsure of what your car is worth you could lose out on big $$$ (money). Do some research before stepping into the showroom. There are many online ways to do some research. We offer a trade appraisal on our website through Kelley Blue Book. It’s a good idea to print this appraisal and bring it with you to the dealership so we know what you were appraised for.

Fix Up Your Vehicle

  • Any damage to your vehicle can lower the trade-in value, be sure to fix any cosmetic damage that could cost you money. Even a car wash and a vacuumed interior could help bring your trade-in value up a few dollars. Repairing minor scratches with touch-up paint or dents are simple repairs that could really increase your vehicle’s value if they are fixed.

Know What To Expect

  • There may be some wiggle room for your trade and sometimes there is not. It’s important to not feel pressured if a trade value is presented and you don’t like the offer. Working with our sales team can help get you in the right car for the right price. Have your paperwork in order if your offer is something you plan to accept, this could help the car buying process go much more smoothly.

Spring has sprung and it’s time to get your ride back into tip-top shape. Many of us might not know too much about what’s under the hood of our vehicle but, when it comes to simple DIY maintenance but with the help of our owners manual and maybe Google, we can figure it out. And although we all love DIY and most importantly saving a couple of extra bucks, there are some services that we should leave to the professionals, even if that means spending a little more than we hoped. So what should we leave to the pros? Great question! Below we have listed out the services that many of us non-mechanic drivers shouldn’t perform on our own. Check them out below and if you have any questions, feel free to give us a call!

  1. Don’t touch the transmission. Don’t even change the fluid. If you make a mistake with the transmission you can end up shelling out much more cash that you intended.
  2. Your windshield is clearly important, don’t goof with those glass repair kits that say they will fix cracks. You’ll be left with unsatisfactory results, leave it to the pros and skip the hassle of having to do it yourself.
  3. Anything electrical, stay away. Definitely leave anything that deals with wiring are off limits! Electrical wiring is delicate and should be handled with care, even if you’re installing a new stereo system.
  4. Fuel pump? This guy is very precise, and require a very precise installation. Even the tiniest goof can leave you with a totaled engine, inside and out.
  5. Engine diagnostics is a no-brainer, let the professionals take care of your check engine lights and save the money that you would’ve spent on the code reader that doesn’t actually fix anything!

April is here and we are ready to embrace spring here in the Capital Region because we are so sick of the cold weather! Springtime means spring cleaning and we don’t want you to forget about your beloved vehicle that has been put through the wringer this winter. Making sure to perform basic service on your vehicle is important to make sure your vehicle says in tip-top for all of your warm-weather adventures.

Many tend to skip out on maintenance because it can become expensive, but if you don’t give your ride the TLC it needs, then it will cost you a whole lot more money when it breaks down, So if you haven’t serviced your Nissan yet, there is no better time than NOW to schedule your service appointment! You can head over to our website and schedule your appointment for whenever works best for you! Before you do that, be sure to check out all of our service specials below and print out the one that works best for you! At the time of write up, be sure to present your coupon to have it honored!

Spring has sprung and that means that it’s time to start your spring cleaning! But as the Capital Region’s go-to for Nissan vehicles, it is only fitting that we remind you not to forget about your vehicle when you start your spring cleaning. I think we’ve all heard the saying, look good, feel good, and it’s true! When you’re cruising down the road, with the windows down and the breeze on your face, you don’t want to get a whiff of last week’s lunch that has been living in your backseat. Plus, warmer weather means more road trips with your friends, but if there isn’t enough room for them to get in, your trip could take a quick detour to lame-ville. So, take a few minutes and check out our helpful checklist below!

The main console – Wipe down your console with a damp rag. Make sure to show some love to the cupholders, the change holders, and any other opening, but make sure to steer clear of any electrical connections on the console.

Windows and mirrors – It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if your windows and mirrors have accumulated dirt and debris over the winter months. Oh, and if you have children we’re sure their little fingerprints are everywhere! But it’s okay, just use some window cleaner and clean both the inside and outside of the best visibility.

Windshield wipers – Spring is known for its impressive rain storms, so making sure that your rides wipers are in tip-top shape is important! Wipers should be changed out every six months, so spring is the perfect time to change them.

Carpeting and upholstery – Mud and salt from the winter months are your interior’s biggest enemies. If the back of your seats and doors have muddy footprints or your once gray carpeting is now black, then an interior detailing might be a good idea. Vacuum the carpet and use a carpet cleaning solution to remove any stubborn stains. Use a damp towel to wash the seats of your car.

The trunk – We tend to throw everything we’ve ever brought into our vehicles into our trunk. It doesn’t seem like a problem until you need to use your trunk, right? Well, with more adventures in your future it might be time to clean out your trunk. Remove any unnecessary items that may have piled up there during the winter. Vacuum the trunk, tending to the cracks and crevices. Then check the spare tire to make sure that it is properly inflated.

The exterior – Feel free to splurge on a full-service cleaning for your vehicle’s exterior. The snow, salt, and everything else thrown at it this winter have probably taken a toll on your vehicle’s exterior. Sending it through a car wash is a simple and pretty cost-effective way to get your ride clean fast! If you want to wash the car yourself, use a soft sponge and a mild detergent designed especially for cars. Rinse and wipe the vehicle down with a gentle towel. Follow up with a wax treatment for your car.

Engine – The heart of your vehicle is the most critical component and deserves some TLC. Pop open the door and remove any excess grime. If the engine looks significantly dirty, bring it into Destination Nissan and we will professionally clean it!
