Garage Clutter Be Gone
It’s still winter, but that doesn’t mean it’s not the right time to clean out your garage so you can at least use it for part of the cold season to make your life a million times easier! Need to know how? We’ve got you covered!
Now, this project shouldn’t be daunting, even if you do have a larger garage with a lot of junk in it. The first step to making your garage into the paradise you deserve is to take everything (and we mean everything) out of it and then sort it into a pile of trash and a pile of things you want to keep. Throw away the trash. Go through the “to keep” pile and then throw away the trash that snuck in there.
With your garage now beautifully empty, sweep the floor, vacuum it, dust, and declutter. Don’t own shelves? Get some!. If you do have shelves, wipe them down and organize them.
Finally, put everything back into your garage. Use the storage you have so that you can park your car inside of your garage in the way Nature intended. And… that’s it! Easy, right?
Clean Your Car Like A Pro!
Winter is a season of cold weather, snow, road salt, and remembering your scarf… but it’s also the season of your car becoming a complete mess. Well, here’s a way to get out of the doldrums – clean out and organize your car! When you get back into the driver’s seat afterward, you’ll feel like a new person with a new car. Seriously, it works!
The first thing you need to do is get a couple of trash bags. First, get all of the trash out of your car. All of it! Trunk, back seat, front seat, center console… wherever there’s trash, find it and throw it away.
Next, get everything else out of your car. Separate everything into things that need to stay in your car and things that can go inside. Bring the inside stuff inside (this is a car blog, so I don’t really care what you do after that) and then leave the car stuff out.
Give your car a nice vacuum, a dusting, and a few spritzes of Febreeze. If you want to do some more cleaning, go right ahead!
Afterward, put everything you wanted to keep in your car back into it, but in an organized fashion. There you go!
How Often Do You Really Need Oil Changes?
When it comes down to oil changes, do you really know how often you’re supposed to go into the shop for that service? People usually say “oh yeah, it’s every 3,000 miles or 6 months” but is that true? Not necessarily! There are a few factors that go into determining the actual frequency of your oil changes, which are:
-
The age of your car
-
The type of oil you use
-
How many miles are on your car
-
What conditions you usually drive in
-
How hard you drive your car
The person who can tell you how often you SHOULD get your oil changed is your dealer, who just so happens to be Destination Nissan! Come visit our service department and ask us about oil changes, and we’ll set you up with a schedule of how often you should get your oil changed. It’s easy, quick, and your car will be in the best health of its life!
Battery Dying? Don’t Cry Yet.
Do you find that your battery doesn’t seem to work the way it used to? Has your battery died on you in the past couple weeks? Albany has been cold as anything, but just because it’s freezing doesn’t mean your battery shouldn’t work. Here are some reasons your battery might be wimping out on you.
You could be leaving lights on, either your headlights or your interior lights (like your dome light or map lights). It’s either forgetfulness or you have a problem. Make sure you check all your lights when you get out of the car – even your trunk light – and make sure they are all turned off or that they have turned off by themselves. If not, you could have an issue with those switches.
Your battery could just be old. If you can’t remember the last time you replaced your battery, it’s probably time for a new one. When your battery is too old, it won’t hold a charge anymore the way it’s supposed to and it’ll die on you.
Your battery connections could be loose or corroded, which means that the charging system in your vehicle is prevented from keeping your battery charged while you are driving. Take a minute to check your connections and make sure they are clean and tight.
The cold is a factor in that temperature fluctuations can cause older batteries to die. This means, though, that you should get a new battery anyway.
Your charging system itself could be at fault if your battery dies while you are actively driving. This means it could be anything from your wiring to belts in the engine, so after you get your car jumped bring it directly to us.
Check Engine Light On? Never Fear!

Do you have feelings of existential dread, impending doom, or gripping fear when you see your check engine light come on? It shouldn’t be a regular occurrence by any means, but if you’ve ever had that little light show up on your dash then you might know what I’m talking about. Luckily, it’s not the end of the world! The five most common causes of the check engine light coming on are actually not complicated problems, and though they range in cost-to-fix from free to kind of expensive, they’re not mysteries by any means. Check them out below, and then take a deep breath.
-
Gas cap. Your check engine light could have come on simply because your gas cap is either not screwed on tightly enough, broken, or missing entirely. Whenever the check engine light comes on, check your gas cap first. If it’s broken or missing, it can be replaced very inexpensively.
-
Spark plugs. Every 100,000 miles or so, your spark plugs will need to be replaced. The light coming on could simply mean that it’s that time.
-
Mass Airflow Sensor. This component monitors the amount of air coming through your engine so that it can tell the engine how much fuel to use. If it’s broken, your emissions increase and your car can stall.
-
Oxygen sensors. Also known as O2 sensors, these monitor the amount of unburned oxygen in your exhaust, which is a measure of how much fuel is being burned in your engine. When these are broken, your mileage can decrease and you can burn out your catalytic converter.
-
Catalytic Converter. This is unfortunately the worst-case scenario as it is typically the most expensive repair. If your cat is broken or malfunctioning, it won’t reduce your exhaust gases the way it is supposed to, which can decrease your MPGs and affect your acceleration power.
Need Speed? Drive These 3 Nissans
If you have the need for speed, you should consider getting a performance car from Nissan. Currently, the Japanese automaker has several speedy cars that can compete with the some of the fastest production cars in the world. Here are three of them.
Maxima
While it’s competing in the full-size segment, theNissan Maxima is smaller than many of its rivals. This sports sedan uses a 300-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine and a continuously variable transmission. With this combo, it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The car is also one of the better-handling cars in its segment, offering adequate grip and minimal body lean around turns.
370Z
The 370Z comes with a 3.7-liter V6 engine that pairs with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. All trims make 332 hp, except the NISMO, which produces 350 hp. The 370Z can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 13.7 seconds. The base and Touring trims come with an open rear differential, while the others receive a viscous limited-slip differential.
GT-R
Also known as “Godzilla”, theNissan GT-R is one of the fastest production cars ever made. It’s equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that generates 600 hp in the NISMO trim and 565 hp in the other trims. This car can go from zero to 60 mph in an incredible 2.9 seconds and finish a quarter-mile run in just 11 seconds.
Nissan’s performance cars don’t only offer great speed and power; they are also reliable, comfortable, and loaded with advanced features.
