Nissan continued to pull ahead of the competition this weekend as the most decorated manufacturer in the SCCA runoffs. The brand won its 98th National Championship thanks to driver Greg Ira, of Plantation, FL, at Daytona International Speedway.

“I got a good jump on the start,” Schader said. “(pole sitter) Scotty (White) and I hit the gas at the same time, but I guess I got a little bit of a leap and managed to pull a couple of car lengths into Turn One, and then I just started pedaling as hard as I could to get away from those guys before they were going to eat me.”

It appeared as though Ira would only finish second for most of the race. But near the end of lap 12, a brake malfunction struck the Porsche ahead of Ira which allowed him to cruise to a 19-second win with an average speed of almost 103 mph.

“I’m confident we can win at least two titles next year,” said North American Motorsports Manager Rick Kulach. “Mid-Ohio should bring out a solid contingent of Datsuns and Nissans in several categories, so I think we’ll have a little extra to celebrate this time next year.

On September 14, 2015, the 3 millionth vehicle made at the Canton, Mississippi rolled off the assembly line. It was a 2015 Nissan Murano and it represented 12 years of handwork and over 6,000 jobs. The plant was also a huge contributor to charities with over 11 million dollars and countless man hours in donations.

The Canton plant was originally a regional manufacturing facility. Nissan chose to invest $2.9 billion in the plant over the years which has resulted in the plant becoming a global facility for manufacturing the Nissan Altima, Armada, NV Cargo Van, NV Passenger Van, Murano, Titan King Cab and Crew Cab and the Frontier King Cab and Crew Cab.

“It is fitting that our 3-millionth vehicle is a Nissan Murano. Since its launch last year, the Murano has continued to win accolades and grow sales. The vehicle’s quality and craftsmanship is a testament to the abilities and commitment of Nissan Canton employees,” said Steve Marsh, vice president, Manufacturing, Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant, Nissan North America, Inc. “The Nissan leadership team appreciates the Canton team’s efforts to build Murano and the other six models that roll off the plant’s vehicle assembly line each day.”
